Citrine Sea Urchin with baby cast in Sterling Silver necklace
Handmade solid Sterling silver Sea Urchin, with a 9ct gold bezel where a round faceted AA Lemon quartz has been set. This Pendant was ensembled in a Sterling silver chain with beautiful AAA faceted shaded Citrine roundels. The Sea Urchin is an imprint from a natural species adding some movement a little silver pendant hangs from the pendant itself with a beautiful round smooth AAA Citrine cabochon. I have used the shell or test which is comprised of calcite plates from a Sea Urchin (exoskeleton).
Sea urchins are small, spiny, spherical in shape and covered with long movable spines. They constitute the class Echinoidea of the echinoderm phylum. There are c. 950 species of echinoids inhabiting all oceans from the intertidal to 5000 meters deep. Sea urchins are found on the ocean bottom, usually near rocky shores. Sea urchins may be brown, black, purple, green, white, or red. Most are about two to four inches (5 to 10 cm) in diameter, including the spines. For 100 years, developmental biologists have valued the Sea Urchin as an experimental model organism. Such as for studies on the basic mechanism os developement and cell divison, helping to understand reproduction and diseases like cancer.
