The history of cufflinks... According to the National Cufflink Society, evidence of their use can be found in ancient hieroglyphics in King Tut's tomb. But cufflinks as we know them were first used during the 1700s. Shirt cuffs were originally fastened using ribbons or tape ties. However, during the mid-17^th Century shirt sleeves started to be fastened with sleeve buttons, two buttons often made of precious metals, connected by a metal loop. These sleeve buttons are what we would recognise as cufflinks today and were exclusively used by the upper classes.
On "The count of Monte-Cristo" Alexandre Dumas's novel, the novel describes Baron Danglars's elegantly adorned cuffs;
