Being relatively rare, Peruvian blue opal is only found in the Andes mountains near San Patricio, in Peru. It is a very translucent stone with colours similar to the Caribbean Sea.
Opal is a hardened silica gel, usually containing between 5-10% water. Therefore it is noncrystalline, (unlike most gemstones. It is a delicate stone.
Peruvian opal is the national stone of Peru and ranges between 5.5 and 6.5 on the Mohs scale of hardness.
This stone has soft relaxing energies, and it is good for quieting the mind and helpful in aiding sleep.
