Sakura - Japanese (桜 or 櫻; さくら) cherry blossom solid sterling silver ring with a round 3.75mm faceted Colombian Emerald set on a crown. While listening Antonio Vivaldi's Concerto No. 1 in E major, Op. 8, RV 269, "La primavera" (Spring) - (Le quattro stagioni) I got carried away and pictured a magnificent cherry blossom tree (prunus serrulata). I have imprinted partially onto sterling silver a design of a cherry blossom tree, and by using 'pariser oxid' giving its imprinting a slight nuance of colour contrast. Once the ring band is ready, a crown - claw setting was shaped and soldered onto the top of the ring. This ring awakens your touch sense, and almost as if you actually can smell the cherry blossoms. The beautiful adorable green Emerald adds a fresh splash to this composition.

From late March to mid April the arrival of the famous Sakura - cherry blossoms - has a great cultural meaning and significance for the people of Japan, and is known as Hanami. It is said that the origin of Hanami dates back to more than one thousend years ago. Flower viewing was a phenomenon that the Japanese adopted from China during the Heiran Period, when aristocrats enjoyed looking at scenic landscapes of cherry blossoms and wrote poems and stories inspired by the picturesque lanscapes.

While in China the cherry blossom tree represented the female form it took on a much deeper meaning in Japanese culture. The Japanese observed the life cycle of the cherry blossom tree and drew a similitude between the nature of the blossoming tree with human life in general.

There are actually over 100 ornamental cherry tree species, each with different characteristics of hardiness, form, size, habit, blossom colour and blooming periods. Blossom colours can be deep pink, yellow to white.
